Before 2013 Jabez Clegg used to be a well-known student night spot and beer hall. Much to the disappointment of regulars it was closed after being sold to the university. Manchester Metropolitan University produced an accent map of Greater Manchester and the accents of Manchester and Salford were described as 'diverse', 'rough', 'common' and the word ' scally' was also used as a description.
