About this deal

This means you may leave some empty areas as long as you know your opponents don’t have the pieces needed to take advantage of these leaks. In this guide, we’re sharing 11 Blokus strategies to improve your odds of winning every game. They include:

The game is played on a square board divided into 20 rows and 20 columns, for a total of 400 squares. There are a total of 84 game tiles, organized into 21 shapes in each of four colors: blue, yellow, red, and green. The 21 shapes are based on free polyominoes of one to five squares (one monomino, one domino, two trominoes/triominoes, five tetrominoes, and 12 pentominoes). These shapes are the first in the A000105 sequence. [3] Play tiles so they touch a corner of one of your pieces. Once it’s your turn again, choose any tile you have in front of you and place it on the game board. Set the piece onto the board so one of its corners touches a corner on the first tile you placed. Make sure the tile doesn’t touch sides with any piece that’s the same color, or else it’s an illegal move. Let’s see some examples: Players need to see what shape will fit best in developing patterns and ensure that they can continue to let their colour grow. As the board fills, competition for space becomes more intense. Play ends when no other tiles can be played by any player or when every player has placed all of their pieces. If a player places all of their tiles they will score 15 points and if the final piece placed is the single 1×1 square, the a bonus of five is also added. Players with un-placed tiles, lose points according to the number of squares remaining. Thoughts on Blokus Some players choose to build structures similar to the Barasona opening to force others to drop their 1 piece. However, this is probably going to cost them in the long run as they will not be able to reach new areas of the board and will miss valuable opportunities to expand. 8. Look at gameplay with a “corners out” mindset What’s a “1” piece? you may ask. When discussing Blokus’s strategy, it is standard to set the name of each piece in advance to avoid confusion later on. The following is the standard naming system for Blokus pieces.
