Smiler gets drunk and adventurous on Auntie Wainwright's homemade wine, and Truly and Compo attempt to keep him under control. Clegg and Foggy are determined to avoid Christmas joys and so pretend it is November, but Compo is reluctant and even brings three women around as a Christmas treat.

Sherbet(Paul Oldham; 1988–1989) was a friend of many trio members. His fate after the war is unknown as he was never alluded to in the main series. The character appeared in every prequel episode. Mrs. Entwistle is the wife of Electrical Entwistle, occasionally mentioned by him. In the 2006 Christmas special "A Tale of Two Sweaters" her and Electrical had a row so later on they could make up.

Series 17

At the library, Clegg and Blamire turn Compo upside down to rid him of evil spirits and are thrown out by Mr Wainwright. While Aldridge played Seymour actor Paul McLain played the younger version of the same character in the prequel series ’‘ First of the Summer Wine’’. When Aldridge left the series in 1990 for personal reasons, Seymour was last seen leaving on a bus to take up a new job as interim headmaster at a private school—just as previous third man Foggy returned. [7] The lads visit Sam in hospital, and agree to help him spend one last night with his 'other woman', Lilly Bless'er. the trio, and Sid, then have to move Sam several times before his funeral, But Ivy is suspicious of their activity. After being thrown out of the library by Mr. Wainwright, the trio go to the café to find Sid is in trouble with Ivy for not fixing the roof. Compo is short of money, but after a flash of inspiration (and a visit to Auntie Wainwrights), he becomes a one-man band.

Throughout the show guest characters have appeared more than once in the series making several appearances. The trio decide to look up some old school friends, to try and recapture the spirit of Christmas from the past. While others unite in the effort to repair his tatty van, Tom does his best to avoid lifting a finger to help.Foggy decides to restore an old boat, and Compo knows who he wants to take on the first trip...Nora Batty. Barry looks for his Car engine, not knowing Wesley has put it in the boat. Clegg, Howard & Pearl get re-housed. Billy assembles a band of archers to defend against French invaders, and Pearl finds a way to keep tabs on Howard's comings and goings.
