There are some situations when we inspect without giving any notice. This is normally when the childminder’s provision was inadequate at their last inspection or because concerns have been raised that indicate they may not be meeting requirements of the early years foundation stage ( EYFS). Each Local Authority decides on the thresholds that are used to determine if a child is at risk of significant harm. You need to be aware of these, so it is important that you find out where you can access these for your area. If you work with assistants, inspectors will gather evidence of the effectiveness of staff supervision, performance management, training and continuing professional development, and the impact of these on children’s well-being, learning and development. This includes evidence of how effectively you engage with any staff and make sure that staff are aware of, and manage, any of the main pressures on them. If you run a childminder agency that only registers childcare providers who care for children from 1 September following their fifth birthday up to the age of 8, you must register on the Childcare Register. Once registered, you can make use of the Ofsted registered childminder agency logo. Childminder agencies should follow our logo guidance carefully and not edit the logo in any way. Annual feeYou should submit your data on or immediately after each of the four dates below. The data should reflect the current position at each date: You can still choose to register if you’re a nanny or in other situations. This helps the child’s parents qualify for free childcare. National Insurance credits for parents and carers replaced HRP from 6 April 2010. If you reach State Pension age on or after 6 April 2010 and you had years of HRP before 6 April 2010, these years have been converted into National Insurance credits, up to a maximum of 22 years. These will go towards your basic State Pension. Insurance for Childminders Public Liability Insurance National Insurance credits for parents and carers have replaced the Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) which was a scheme designed to protect a persons State Pension.

The ‘No children present on the day of inspection’ section of the early years inspection handbook sets out our approach to inspection when there are no children on roll or present on the day of the inspection. When inspected you will need to be able to show ' a clear approach to implementing the Prevent duty and keeping children and learners safe from the dangers of radicalisation and extremism'. You will need to add information about the Prevent Duty to your safeguarding policy. Ofsted and local authorities already share a great deal of information and have protocols and regulations in place to support this work.

We take into account the COVID-19 pandemic and the disruption it has caused. The inspector will ask the childminder about any ongoing impact of the pandemic and how they are dealing with the situation. They will consider this in the inspection judgement. Speaking to the inspector You should think about how you handle your planning when working with assistants - how do they know what each child’s individual learning is? Are you likely to need a planning meeting? How would this be managed? You should also think about how your consent forms include the assistants i.e. applying sun cream, taking photos, emergency medical assistance etc.

the applicant or registered person’s understanding of the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage talk to the childminder about their understanding of what children know and can do, and how they are supporting children to develop further A partnership is where two or more individuals act together to provide the agency. The registered person is each of the individuals making up the partnership. Partnerships can be formally constituted under a legal agreement, or informal. For even more information on safeguarding practice, take a look at our blog. Other resources linked to Ofsted Local authorities and Family Information Services remind providers of their responsibilities and what they need to tell Ofsted. Having this type of information provides an opportunity for us to assess the information from the local authority alongside the information we already hold about a provider or setting. If there is information to suggest that a provider is not meeting requirements, we will normally carry out a full inspection and publish an inspection report. However, sometimes we may need to look into very serious concerns ahead of an inspection.

An Ofsted-registered childminder and agency-registered childminder may operate from the same premises. Ofsted will regulate and inspect the Ofsted-registered childminder and the agency will regulate and inspect the agency childminder.what you know about what the childminder is doing to support your child’s development (sometimes referred to as ‘next steps’) Inspectors cannot deal with complaints concerning children. Nor can they settle disputes between parents and the childminder. If you are worried about your childminder’s provision, you should start by talking directly to the childminder first. If you are not satisfied with the response you receive, you can follow Ofsted’s complaints process. Information about the judgements we make explaining how agreed working arrangements can assist both organisations to meet these responsibilities Ofsted can carry out inspections without notice. No-notice inspections normally, but not always, take place when a childminder was judged inadequate at their last inspection, or when someone has raised concerns that a childminder may not be meeting the requirements of the EYFS. How long will my inspection take? An inspection will not normally take longer than 3 hours. Sometimes, such as when a childminder works with assistants, the inspection may take longer. The inspector will let the childminder know as soon as possible if this is going to be the case. The inspector will be mindful that the childminder must supervise children and continue to always meet their needs during the inspection. How much notice we give
