About this deal

Here are just a couple of popular and affordable pairs that I know would be great for music festivals: Unicorn Snot BIO Glitter Holographic Body Glitter: “Soft and safe to use on your face and skin as glitter makeup, kids glitter crafts, glitter tattoos, sparkly slime etc. Mix with Aloe gel for a natural, safe way to apply for children.” At music festivals, my go-to lens is my Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8. As music festivals feature high stages, the extra distance between performers and the photo pit will be well covered by a 70-200mm lens. David Martin, chief executive of the Featured Artists Coalition, a trade body representing the interests of musicians, said: “There’s an assumption that if you’re the person on stage, you’re financially safe. The artists in the middle are being squeezed. We should heed the warnings that we’re seeing from cancelled shows.” Like most tours, the “first three songs” rule is in effect for music festivals. What this means is that you’ll be able to photograph the first three songs of a band’s performance from the photo pit, located between the stage and the barricade at the front of the crowd. For regular gig photographers, this should be no surprise.

I like to carry a small microfiber cloth and clip it to my bag. It's easy to take off and to wipe down my front elements as necessary. Spudz is the brand that makes mine and they offer various sizes, but there are other similar products. Adidas Superstar Sneakers – These have been my go-to festival shoe for quite a while! I’ve always loved the simplistic style with the classic three stripes on the side. They’ve got a bunch of different colors, and they’re decently affordable. I’ve bought several pairs of these in the past couple of years. My general music photography kit includes three zoom lenses: an ultra-wide, a midrange, and a telephoto. Shooting music festivals, this is no exception and I still rely on a main, three lens kit: The annual three-day music festival is held along the public beaches of Gulf Shores and at famed restaurant/venue The Hangout. With an emphasis on Southern hospitality and legendary performers, Hangout Fest has taken over the Gulf Coast city since 2010 with a huge lineup featuring just about every genre and providing a sneak peek of what’s coming this summer in the United States. As far as we know, this is the only festival in the world where you can watch the main stage from a hot tub. 38. Roots Picnic If you're photographing a music festival, have fun. I hope these tips and suggestions have helped. The basics of photographing a music festival are the same as a concert, just on a vastly different scale.I can’t believe how many I see at the very front of music festival stages without this festival essential because it can cause serious issues for you in the future. Take it from me – buy yourself some decent earplugs, and protect yourself! Not only do these dampen the decibels, but they also manage to let the sound in and don’t muffle live music like some foam plugs tend to do… and they stay firmly in place. In my opinion – and taking cost into consideration – having a set of these on hand when you head out to see live music is definitely worth it.

So, what do you photograph at a music festival? There's no subject of subjects, some of them obvious and some perhaps less so. The live music aspect of festivals is certainly a big draw, but I personally love the other aspects of it just as much or more. The fans, the outfits, the scale and atmosphere of it all — these aspects of a music festival are just as important to capture. Are you getting geared up for the 2023’s festival season? Having gone to festivals myself and camped out a ton, I’m here to share with you festival accessories, gear, and equipment that can help you have an experience of a lifetime. Paul Smith of Maxïmo Parkat Trnsmt festival in Glasgow last year. Photograph: Roberto Ricciuti/Redferns If you're a shorter individual, the use of a folding step stool can be a good option in a photo pit for a festival if you use some common courtesy. The main value of a step stool is that it can give you some extra height to deal with high festival stages. The downsides are that you have to lug them with you all day and the fact that your mobility in using a step stool is severely limited. However, for general live music shooting at festivals, an ultra-wide is going to have limited utility due to the high stages, so keep this in mind when making your festival photography kit. Due to the extra height of large stages at festivals, an ultra-wide angle lens isn't necessary for most kinds of shooting. Festival fashion is a big deal! Go to your next festival in style with these clothes and fun accessories. Clothes and Shoes
