About this deal

Now my take in more detail - Amouage Imitation is almost nothing like the other Amouage I have smelt or own. The rough dirty woody-rose and of course leathery musky vibe that oozes from it gives me this pleasurable sensation which causes me to sniff it randomly a lot. I also (oddly) tend to wear it more than my Journey Man or Boundless etc, and sometimes just spray it while working in my home office - works well on both skin and clothes for me. Imitation Woman is a sweet, rich floral chypre with fruity nuances, some spiciness and a nice smoky drydown. It bears some similarity to Lush Karma, a scent I've recently tested, but it is more upmarket and the cola bottle comparison is less on the nose. This eagerly anticipated phase is where I believe the fragrance truly shines. The composition takes on a warmer and more sensual dimension, creating a blend of notes that introduces some of the animalic aspects reminiscent of many old-school scents from the past. Rapidly, however, a smoky note comes through. Early on, it is cigarette smoke, which doesn't sound great but it actually works well with the fading fruit. As time goes on, Imitation softens and there's a faint whiff of incense and woods. By that stage, it's a skin scent on me. Since we already know that Imitation is not a mass-appealing fragrance that’s guaranteed to receive compliments, it can garner positive reactions but not expect much.

The Amouage luxury fragrance brand was founded luxury fragrance brand in 1983in Muscat, Oman by Prince Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidiand is run by Oman Perfumery LLC. The rose is very abstract and vinylised, (not vandalised, although you can interpret perhaps a Graffiti Rose of the late 80ies), like a shrink-wrapped vinyl record, eagerly waiting to be opened, as you take it out of your suede 70ies style designer tote (courtesy of Chloé).Bottle and box...among the most powerful of Amouage... They accurately portray this perfume, a 3-4 decade old leather chypre walking down a street lit by neon signs. If I had to describe it in one word, I would say "VIVID". Objectively, it is a very wearable modern chypre (even though we are told here that it is a floraleather oriental) reminiscent of 'Eau Du Soir' by SISLEY, 'Ô' de Lancôme and it even has some of the musky, aldehydic pungency of my beloved "Iquitos" by Alain Delon, that is long discontinued and gone.....I love the triangle that is Suede, Vetiver and Patchouli here. Someone told me that Imitation Woman was louder than the men's and I had assumed that they're both similar to one another so I sold Imitation man to buy the women's version... I didn't realise before acting out while knowing full well that the men's and women's versions are always different to one another! During that era, the sounds, scents, and sights profoundly influenced Chong, inspiring him to create the duo of men’s and women’s versions of Imitation that encapsulate that era through scent.

Released in time while Christopher Chong was still the creative director of the brand and one of the last fragrances created under his creative hand. There’s a scene in The Deuce’s second season opening (HBO, highly recommended) where we see Candy walking along pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers and hustlers. She’s wearing a fur coat and a white silk ensemble that looks like Halston. While she smiles to some familiar faces on her way to a new disco, there’s a melancholy reminding her that some years before she was on those streets asking 30 plus 10 for her services, and a strength that shows her that she’s past those years, somewhere better, but not quite there yet; there are still obstacles in her way.

I've been waiting patiently to review this one.Firstly, I don't think it will have a mass appeal because of its subtle complexity, but for me that's exactly where this fragrance shines. It has that dirty spice, woody and a prominently beautiful rose that just works. The missus' first comment on sniffing this was. "I'm not sure I fully dig this one". Knowing how the fragrance is anything but linear I was curious to see if her views would change shortly afterward. The age range is over 25 since it leans toward a slightly more mature audience due to its complexity. Late 20s and older to be safe. Blue, green, yellow, pink, red, orange, and various iterations of these colors converge, rendering it one of the most exceptional fragrance bottles ever crafted and a prized collector’s item.

Compositions like this one are what fuel our passion for fragrance and keep us exploring the ever-evolving world of scents. It B L O W S my mind. I get the dislike bar - not everyone is going to love it. You need balls to wear it, you need not to give a F. And while you need balls - it's a unisex. I can imagine my wife wearing it, too. It is not office safe, and it's great for the whole year maybe except the 20+ summer. It lasts 8+h and projects strong for at least 5.

Sulphurous elegance of an old-era chypre, Imitation Man is a bursting-sweet ode to the freedom sweeping the streets of New York in the seventies’. Notes and Classification
